Cheshire Wedding Cakes – 3 things that can affect the price of your wedding cake.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I’m often asked, “How much is a wedding cake?”  Now that’s a big question! It’s a bit like asking “How much is a car?” or “How much is a house?  There’s no simple answer and it will depend on how you’d like your wedding cake to look and taste.    Your wedding cake is probably the most important cake you will ever buy.  It’s the centrepiece of any wedding and cutting the cake, is one of the iconic wedding day moments, so it’s important it looks good.  At Buttercup Cakes, we provide a bespoke service, with every single wedding cake made with love and care.  You’ll have a wedding cake that is unique to you, and looks and tastes amazing.  So here’s are 3 things that can affect the price of your wedding cake.

1  Size Matters

Do you want a tall, impressive cake with many tiers?  The bigger the cake, the more servings it will give and the higher the price will be.  For example a 5 tier cake will give approximately 250 portions.  Often couples love the idea of a large, statement cake,  but don’t need so many servings and I often get asked if we can use false tiers to increase the height.  Yes we can, but it wont reduce the price of the cake by as much as you might imagine.  Good quality polystyrene false tiers, come at a cost and still need to be decorated. Probably our most popular sized cakes are 3 or 4 tiers and we can advise you on the most appropriate size of cake for the number of guest you’re having.

2  The Design

Whatever style you choose, elegant, luxurious, contemporary, classic or rustic, the complexity of the design and the time it takes to create will most certainly affect the price of your wedding cake.  Intricate sugar work, ruffles and stunning handmade sugar flowers, take many, many hours and even days to complete.  Even without decoration, the average wedding cake will take at least three days to make.

We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and flawless finish, so even a simple design, perfectly executed can take a great deal of time and expertise to achieve.

3  The Ingredients

Wedding cakes should taste great too!  After all it’s made to be eaten!  Great tasting cakes, mean using the finest ingredients, which don’t come cheap.  We bake all our cakes from scratch (no cake mixes here), using the finest ingredients.  Locally sourced free range eggs, premium flours, Sicilian lemons, Madagascan vanilla, the best quality conserves and decadent chocolate ganache.  Our cakes have four layers of sponge, and are triple layered with flavoursome fillings, such as fluffy buttercream, salted caramel sauce, conserve or ganache. To achieve clean lines and super sharp edges, our cakes are covered in a layer of white chocolate ganache and then iced with the finest Swiss Massa Ticino fondant.

So as you can see, there isn’t a simple answer when it comes to costing a bespoke wedding cake.  There are so many things that can affect the price of your wedding cake.  As as a general guide, we find that most couples are budgeting between £600 and £700 upwards for their wedding cake.
